The South West Rail Link opened in 2015 from Glenfield to Leppington as the backbone of future Sydney Trains Network connection with Western Sydney Airport (Terminal).
Yet both the Commonwealth Government and NSW Government are now forsaking this critical infrastructure link in lieu of the wasteful conversion of the line into Metro.
Extending the South West Rail Link from Leppington to Western Sydney Airport provides the shortest route to the new Western Sydney Airport (Terminal) and direct connections available to other parts of Sydney including City Circle, Central, Sydney Airport, Liverpool, Revesby, Parramatta and Bankstown.
The government proposal for Metro from Glenfield to Aerotropolis falls short of Western Sydney Airport (Terminal) and fails to provide an integrated rail network for Greater Sydney.

FIX LIVERPOOL TRANSPORT
The Petition of South West Sydney residents and commuters Brings to the attention of the House the removal of the following train services from Liverpool since 2013: Inner West Line (City to Liverpool via Regents Park), Express Trains to City via Granville (T2 Leppington Line), Direct Train to Campbelltown (T5 Cumberland Line), the upcoming removal of Express Trains to City via T3 Bankstown Line (due to the Sydenham – Bankstown Metro Southwest).
The undersigned petitioners therefore ask the Legislative Assembly to: Fix Liverpool Transport by restoring the Inner West Line’s Liverpool via Regents Park service, restoring express trains to City on the T2 Leppington Line, restoring the direct train to Campbelltown and the T5 Cumberland Line, maintain existing heavy rail services on the T3 Bankstown Line and upgrade signalling on the T3 Bankstown Line instead of building Metro Southwest.
Extend the South West Rail Link from Leppington to Western Sydney Airport, allowing for T2 Line trains from Western Sydney Airport to City Circle via Liverpool and Granville; and T8 Line trains from Western Sydney Airport to City Circle via East Hills and Sydney Airport.

Internal Transport for NSW documents indicate that the T5 Cumberland Line Y-Link to close in 2026.

Government documents also show that the T3 Bankstown Line will be cut at Cabramatta
Currently the T3 Bankstown Line starts at Liverpool station and provides direct trains to Bankstown, Sydenham and Sydney CBD (including express trains)
Once the Sydenham to Bankstown Metro is built, Liverpool commuters may have to interchange at Cabramatta.
Government documents show that upgrading the Western Rail corridor with additional tracks from Croydon to Granville is essential for Liverpool, Warwick Farm, Cabramatta and Casula commuters. However in 2014, the government redesigned Flemington station without allowing for the inclusion of additional tracks for even the smaller upgrade to sextuplicate the line between Homebush and Lidcombe.
Tolls were also introduced onto the M4 Motorway just months before the 2017 Sydney Trains timetable change which resulted in the loss of express trains to City on the T2 Leppington Line. The government has also ruled out building additional tracks (Croydon/Homebush to Lidcombe/Granville) along the Western Rail corridor.
